Chapter 1
Before I Knew the Lies Love Hides
The Counsellor's View
I sit opposite, steady. Present. Not pushing. Not interpreting. Just available.
There is a kind of quiet in the room that is not empty, but ready.
The woman shifts in her chair.
This is not the beginning of her story.
It is the beginning of her saying it out loud. Of being seen and heard for the first time.
Of me being a witness to that story. To her truth.
Of her becoming.
“I’ve come for counselling,” she says, almost carefully, as if testing the weight of the words.
“I need to make a change. I can’t keep going on like this.” She pauses.
I nod gently. No interruption. Just space.
The woman exhales.
“I’ve just come out of a relationship… but I’m starting to realise it wasn’t just that one. I think all of my relationships have been… abusive in some way.”
The words feel heavy once spoken, as if they change the air in the room.....
